Gmail: Attach from Google Photos
Effective date: February 9, 2026
This Extension lets you attach photos from your Google Photos library directly into Gmail compose windows.
The Extension requests access to:
- Google Photos (read-only) — to browse and select photos for attachment via the Google Photos Picker API.
- Gmail (compose) — to attach the selected photos to the email you are composing.
- The Extension does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data.
- The Extension does not use analytics, tracking, or telemetry of any kind.
- The Extension does not send data to any third-party server.
- OAuth tokens are held in memory only for the duration of your browser session and are never persisted to disk or sent anywhere other than Google's APIs.
- Photo data is downloaded temporarily into browser memory solely to attach it to your email, then discarded.
The Extension communicates exclusively with Google's APIs (accounts.google.com, photospicker.googleapis.com, googleapis.com) to authenticate and retrieve your photos. No other external services are contacted.
- identity — required to sign in with your Google account.
- tabs — required to open the Google Photos picker in a new tab.
- Host permissions (mail.google.com) — required to inject the attachment button into Gmail.
- Host permissions (googleapis.com, photospicker.googleapis.com, lh3.googleusercontent.com) — required to access Google Photos APIs and download images.
