Ron's README
📜 Ron’s README: A Guide to Working with Me
👋 The "TL;DR"
I’m Ron Dagdag, your Engineering Manager based in TX. I view management as a long-term investment: small, consistent improvements in our process and technical growth lead to compounding returns for the team.
I lead as a Strategic Multiplier. My goal is to amplify your impact by clearing roadblocks and providing technical "air cover."
🚀 Technical "Logic" & Stoic Roots
I’ve spent 20+ years at the intersection of AI, IoT, and Cloud. My approach is grounded in Stoic Principles: I focus my energy on what we can control (our code quality, our response to bugs, our data) and don't waste cycles on what we can’t.
Coding as Context: I will be active in our codebase. I use this as a diagnostic tool to understand our friction points and as a coaching tool to help us maintain high architectural standards.
The Pivot Plan: In research, a dead end is just a data point. When an experiment fails, we follow the Stoic path: we don't panic; we analyze, learn, and determine the next pivot.
🤝 The "Multiplier" Operating System
Coaching > Directing: I’d rather ask a question that helps you find a breakthrough than give you the answer. I’m here to build your technical "capital."
Research-Based Debate: I value evidence over opinion. If we hit a technical fork in the road, let’s look at the data.
Disagree and Commit: Once we’ve weighed the research and made a call, we move forward as one team. This is essential for maintaining momentum.
No Surprises: I value transparency. Tell me about "smoke" before it becomes a fire so I can provide air cover.
💬 Distributed Connectivity
Since we are spread across time zones, I prioritize asynchronous flow:
The Writing Culture: I value the detailed PRs and documentation you’ve built. Clear writing is clear thinking.
Intentional Syncs: Meetings will be agenda-focused to protect your "deep work" time.
Building Rapport: Expect a "Question of the Day" in Slack/Teams to keep us connected as humans.
☕ The Human Library
Audiobook Junkie: I love non-fiction audiobooks on leadership, personal finance and innovation (e.g., The Psychology of Money or How Innovation Works).
Engineering in the Wild: When I’m not at my desk, you might see me on my folding bike. I love the engineering behind it—it’s the ultimate portable "last-mile" solution.
Home Base: I’m a dad of two (a viola player and a Roman mythology expert).
Community: I’m a multi-year Microsoft MVP and love staying active in the global developer community.
💡 Interesting Tidbit: The Stoic "Dichotomy of Control"
A core part of my management style is the Dichotomy of Control. In engineering, it means:
Things we control: Our code, Our documentation, our testing, our attitude.
Things we don't: External API outages, changing market requirements.
By focusing 100% of our effort on Category 1, we actually become more resilient to Category 2.
