  1. vi /etc/environment

add these lines...

LANG=en_US.utf-8
LC_ALL=en_US.utf-8

Alternatively,

  1. Create locale file manually: localedef -i en_US -f UTF-8 en_US.UTF-8

If you got LC_CTYPE error, try adding this.

LC_CTYPE="en_US.UTF-8"

Just place this in your /etc/environment file:

LANG="en_US.utf-8"
LC_ALL="en_US.utf-8"
LC_CTYPE="en_US.UTF-8"

Then run:

sudo localedef -i en_US -f UTF-8 en_US.UTF-8
