Had a similar challenge with 2 of my URL shorteners (1 with Google Apps Script and the other for Stack Overflow) where I wanted to create a reserve list of handles and block any offensive ones.

Recently got to a project where someone wanted to identify (if not block / reserve) premium usernames too (ex: dictionary words, important brands etc.) — gave me the idea to build username.dev.

IMO, having more categories against usernames helps. This was builders can determine which to absolutely block (profanity filters, system keywords) and which to reserve (brand, generic first names etc.).
