I don't think the setTimeout() is an issue here because the stream hangs long before we break from the loop in lines 41–62.
This gist in particular is a reproducer for an issue that I hit in Firefox, yes: mozilla/neqo#1451 I could not reproduce this with either Chrome or Go clients, as far as I remember. However I also haven't tried replacing the Server with e.g. a Rust implementation.
Unfortunately somebody over in Mozilla world decided to ban me guest271314/banned#21.
I've tested Rust, quiche via fails-component/webtransport, kixelated's web-transport library, MsQuic (which behaves a little differently; you can't close the writable before the read is done, and get all data back), and a couple others.
I did have some fun getting WebTransport working in Firefox. If I remember correctly I use the issue had something to do with self-signed certificates, however in the issue these flags were mentioned https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1955877
Could you try capturing an HTTP log again with network.http.speculative-parallel-limit set to 0?
I'd suggest to set MOZ-LOG to timestamp,nsHttp:5,nsWebTransport:5,WebTransport:5,neqo_http3::*:5

Could be a race condition with closing the stream. That's the tricky part. When to close - server side. It ain't necessarily consistent between implementations.
What happens if you don't close the writable side and don't close the transport, in the form you're currently doing?

Yeah, I wouldn't be using
setTimeout()at all there.I guess what you're describing is an issue specific to Go's implementation and Firefox's implementation.
I use the same pattern, for the most part, with different WebTransport libraries to test echoing 20 MB, no
setTimeout()invloved.
