An Ode To A Punny Programmer

At my retirement in 2024, the group with whom I had worked for 20+ years, presented this wonderful tribute. Thanks to Dan White for creating this.

An Ode to a Punny Programmer

There once was a coder, so smart and clever, Whose retirement is here, after working forever. A software engineer, a punsmith so keen, Whose wit is as sharp as an 8K screen.

I say again…

There once was a coder, so witty and keen, Whose lines of code flowed like a stream. But it wasn't just software he'd happily engineer, His puns were compiled with equal cheer.

An instructor too, one that JMPS right in. Spreading his knowledge, ensuring we win. An instructor, that instructed, both here and abroad. Teaming without borders, informing the squad.

So, here's to Thom, whose puns we'll miss, May your functions run smooth, with nothing amiss. In memory's stack, your jokes will reside, A pun-loving software engineer, our source of pride.

We celebrate this talent, a gift so rare, Brilliant puns, witty with flair. Butter him up with a toast! To the king of the pun, Whose coding journey was second to none.

To celebrate his retirement, we raise this toast, To the witty engineer we'll miss the most. Thom’s code was clean, his logic clear, But it's his puns we'll forever hold dear.

As he exits the stage, his legacy's clear, In every pun told, we'll feel him near. A repo worth of memories, laughter and cheer, Goodbye punny programmer, we’ll miss you, you hear?

So, let's commit a memory, push it to the cloud, Such memories will forever keep us laughing aloud. Farewell, dear Thom, there will never be an equal. Here's to your retirement, your next chapter, your SQL.

What’s that you say, you aren’t moving too far? And the internets can reach you wherever you are? Well, if that’s the case, I’d like to keep in touch. Because if I didn’t, I think I’d miss you too much.
