A list of all blind-accessible videogames

A list of all blind-accessible videogames

This is a list of every videogame accessible to the blind. For purposes of this article, blind means someone with no usable vision. For every game, its level of accessibility will be described next to it.

For some games there is not enough information so feel free to leave your experiences in the comments. Also, if you know of any other blind-accessible games that aren't on this list, please write them down in the comments. You can also message me on Discord (my username is: molitvan).

You can also join the newly created Discord server) to get updates whenever new games are added, talk, ask questions etc.

This was originally started on June 18th, 2024 in the form of this Reddit thread and has since been moved here. A website for this list and more is planned in the future. Stay tuned!

Games

  • The Last of Us part I. (PC/PS5) - fully accessible w/audio description
  • The Last of Us part II. (PC/PS4/PS5) - fully accessible, but the PS5 and PC versions have more features like audio description and higher quality TTS with support for all game languages
  • God of War Ragnarök (PS4/PS5) - half-baked accessibility with many features broken or partially finished (like the screen reader not reading most of the game), but there is a guide, available here specifically meant to help blind players get around these issues. Also there is audio description, but with many grammatical errors.
  • Spiderman 2 (PC/PS5) - mostly accessible w/audio description (requires brief sighted assistance at certain points in the game, but otherwise fully accessible)
  • Minecraft: Java Edition (PC, with the Minecraft Access mod) - mostly accessible, requires decent spatial awareness
  • Factorio (PC, with the Factorio Access mod) - mostly accessible, currently stuck on an older game version with support for the newest version being worked on and expected probably in a few months. That older version (1.1) still has planty of content and new players won't notice any significant changes when upgrading to 2.0.
  • Lethal Company (PC, with the Lethal Access mod) - mostly accessible
  • Forza Motorsport (PC/Xbox) - fully accessible, high learning curve, includes audio description
  • As Dusk Falls (PC/PS5/Xbox) - fully accessible w/audio description (the game is also available for PS4, but that version is not accessible)
  • Hades (PC, with the Erumi's Blind Accessibility Options modpack) - playable, but a bit tricky at times, uses OCR
  • Hades II. (PC, with the Blind Accessibility and the Tolk Compatibility mods) - limited information, also there isn't any useful information in the mod's readme, but a post by the developer with more info can be found here
  • Stardew Valley (PC, with the Stardew Access mod) - mostly accessible with downsides being related to combat and efficiency when doing some tasks compared to sighted players. Most of that can be fixed with other mods though.
  • Plants vs Zombies (PC, with the pvz-a11y mod) - fully accessible
  • Diablo IV (all platforms) - mostly accessible, requires mental mapping in dungeons, nav assist only in overworld for now
  • Brok the Investigator (all platforms) - fully accessible w/audio description
  • Mortal Kombat 1 (all platforms) - fully accessible w/audio description
  • Slay the Spire (PC, with the Say the Spire mod) - fully accessible
  • Hearthstone (PC, with the Hearthstone Access mod) - fully accessible
  • World of Warcraft (PC, with the Blind Slash mod) - mostly accessible, sighted assistance required in dungeons and end-game content
  • World of Warcraft Classic (PC, with the SKU mod) - not in active development as seen by the notice in the description. As such, I don't recommend it to new players, but I'm putting it here just to make it clear it exists for now.
  • Crusader Kings III (PC, with a mod) - fully accessible with OCR. This means that everything can be played, but the mod relies on using live OCR instead of directly outputing text to a tts.
  • Skull Girls (PC) - fully accessible
  • Balatro (PC, with the Black Hole mod) - fully accessible
  • Any game made in Ren'Py e.g. Doki Doki Literature Club, Slay the Princess... (PC, sometimes with a mod) - fully accessible
  • Fortnite (PC, with the FA11y mod, aim assist available separately here) - playable, but a bit tricky to learn. Also requires a good computer because the mod uses machine learning for everything
  • Yu-Gi-Oh: Master Duels (PC, with the Master Duels Blind Mode mod) - work in progress, looking very promising
  • Pokémon Reborn (PC)
    • Without mods: mostly accessible, instead of navigation assistance there are audio cues for bumping into things to tell you what it is and also for figuring out where walls or empty space are
    • with the PK Reborn Access mod - improves the experience with a lot of features including proper nav assist and improving menu narration in some screens
  • Assassin's Creed Shadows (all platforms) - limited information, the game looks to be playable, but very frustrating. It may get removed from this list in the future.
  • Street Fighter 6 (all platforms) - fully accessible gameplay with features like accessibility audio cues, but with no screen reader. Works well with OCR
  • All GBC and GBA Pokemon games including some ROM hacks (emulated on PC, with the Pokemon Access mod) - fully accessible
  • F1 25 (all platforms) - accessibility audio cues in races enabling almost full accessibility of gameplay, however no screen reader or any other features
  • Blackbox (iOS) - fully accessible
  • Soulblaze (PC) - fully accessible
  • Sequence Storm (PC) - fully accessible

  • Terraria (PC, with the Terraria Access mod) - work in progress, under active development

Accidentally accessible games

These are games that are playable, but without the developers or modders specifically including accessibility for us. Experience with these games may wary.

  • Most fighting games (e.g. older Mortal Kombat)
  • Rhythm Heaven (Nintendo 3DS) - accidentally playable, menu guide available here
  • 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim (PS4/PS5/Switch) - playable, more information and guide available here
  • Ninja Gaiden 3: OCR required, has navigation assist which makes it playable
  • Resident Evil 6: OCR required, has navigation assist which makes it playable.
  • The Jackbox party pack series, from volume 7 upwards including the starter pack. These are social games that work by having one player run the game and show it to others, either IRL on a tv or through a stream on a platform like Discord. The game menus are not narrated, but each minigame has unique music in the selection menu, and once a game is selected you can press up arrow on PC to have the room code read outloud. The web interface for the players is where most of the accessibility is as all visual elements, such as leaderboard changes, are audio described by screen readers. Accessibility for the specific minigames varies, but in general anything which doesn’t involve drawing, i.e. any word, trivia or creative writing games are fully accessible. Older games in the series from volume 6 down also have a few playable games, but don’t have the room code reading or enhanced audio descriptions on the website.
  • Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero - playable, but requires a lot of OCR
  • Ninja Gaiden 4 - OCR required, has navigation assist which makes it playable
  • Animal Crossing: New Horizons - OCR required, has very good sound design and sound cues for almost everything in the game and is also very customizable

This is an absolutely amazing resource. Thank you so much for setting it up. I'd love there to be a centralised place for sightless gamers to exchange tips and information. I'm sure we have loads of experience and the knowledge is kind of spread out at the moment, which is a shame. Is there any plan to develop this into something wider, the core being the games we can play, then maybe a forum for tips and tricks to expand the conradopia of info?

I've just bought myself an Xbox Ally X and am loving the Steam sale on at the moment where I've loaded up with a bunch of games. So nice to feel part of the general sightless community when it comes to anything, especially gaming.

One thought... I know it would be a lot of work, unless there was some way of streamlining the process to something automatic, but it would be good to have a description of the game beyond its accessibility. Currently, I have no clue what half of these are.

I do have some time, so would be happy to help out in expanding the project, should you wish to.

I have a lot of ideas and things I want to do for expanding this, but right now I'm too busy with school. Eventually what I want to do is make this into a website with all the games laid out kinda like a store with categories, search, filters etc etc and each game would have its own section with descriptions, resources, forums and maybe some day even providing documentation/website hosting for projects like accessibility mods. Then on top of that we can also have community forums, newsletters and a bunch of other stuff. I already have a lot of things figured out for that project and I don't wanna give any release dates or anything, but you can most likely expect it sometime next summer.

Regarding descriptions, something I'll do either today or tomorrow (or next week at the worst) is add links to Steam pages (or websites if the game is not on steam) for all the games so you can get descriptions from there.

Also I was thinking about making a Discord server if enough people are interested. I'll most likely do that next week.

I'm interested in helping this project. I'm a web accessibilty consultant and a co-host to the Games for Blind Gamers Jam. This aligns with my suggestion earlier for organizing the games and goes beyond that. Everyone is also welcome to join our Games for Blind Gamers server, though, if they want. Our goal is to support and encourage developers (blind or sighted!) in creating blind-accessible games. Only one in our 5 editions has been developed up to completion / officially released, but our hope is that over time we can perhaps grow and inspire and support more people in creating full games beyond the jam. We would love to grow more and also have more developers and players, because everyone's very important for the community and for the games. The next jam is in February 2026.

Back to the Games Without Sight idea, it is especially interesting to build upon this with an idea of being explicit about everything the game provides, for example, some games may be more accessible for deafblind gamers, some may have high contrast for players with low vision, some are accessible by default and some need mods. Tagging by platform, having a preview of the price, if possible... etc.

Also, I'm testing and helping @Lirin111 with his accessibility mod for Loco Motive, a point and click adventure game from a year ago, 2024. It's not foolproof or perfect yet, but it's going pretty great.

From reading Can I Play That on a fairly regular basis, I do think there needs to be some sort of grading system if there is to include people with partial sight. The spectrum is so wide that one ‘blind’ person will be able to play a game whereas the next won’t. The Gamers Without Sight principle is, if someone completely without sight can play it, anyone with even a little sight will be able to play it. Broadening the scope might end up in with the same situation as Can I Play That in that there is such a wide range of solutions for such a range of access needs, and diluting the usefulness of the information. the quality of specificity, IE, Can A Gamer Without Sight either A, complete this game independently or B, play to a competitive level in sporting or racing games, needs to be front and centre, in my view, at least. The list, as is stands is great as it is specific to sightless play and is specific to mainstream games where accessibility has been included rather than been made the centre of the game. I’m not interested in games for the blind, they’re boring. I want to play games sighted friends do, to play with them or against them. I also don’t want to hear a game is playable by the blind when it requires sight to do so. Starting from the absolute lack of sight in the gamer is a catch all. Just some thoughts on where this could go to be useful. I certainly think there is a space for sighted blind, but it needs to be carefully positioned and structured to avoid the fully blind being sidelined… Again.

I definitely agree that being fully accessible for the fully blind is the bare minimum requirement and should not be sidelined. I think that would be the premise here and sign under it. However, players with low vision may also rely and fully enjoy playing games with their sight and it would be very valuable to provide this information to them if there are features that target to people with varying degrees of sight. The same thing for deaf players or hard of hearing. It will be important to know if the game has settings to adjust pitch and volume, choose stereo versus mono sound or choose to send the sound only to one ear, or even if it has screen-reader accessible, read at your pace dialogues, or transcripts you can check in your journal with past dialogues (e.g. so you can review a dialogue or read it at your pace with your braille display, instead of having to only rely on voice acting). I think those players can also be sidelined a lot and believe that we should think of everyone when possible - and inform everyone if the game is accessible and enjoyable for them as well.

This takes extra work, of course, but it also raises awareness that not all blind players are the same.

Ideally, the bare minimum would be being accessible to deafblind players by default, but we all know that "niche" is still miles away from making its own website...

I agree with @OlzKennett here. I think that including low vision and legally blind players would make the scope too wide and personally I'm not sure if I'd be willing to spend time on such a project, at least not currently. As someone who has went from being low vision to legally blind to now pretty much no usable vision at all, I think that low vision and legally blind players already have a lot of resources and a lot more resources than we do while there's a severe lack of resources for fully blind players.
And don't get me wrong. I'm not saying screw low vision and legally blind players and players with other disabilities, what I'm saying is that I think the best thing for this project is to focus exclusively on fully blind players and exclusively on mainstream (non-blind-specific) games as it does currently.

Also @uxaccess I'm personally not a fan of separating the list into sections like that while it's still here on GitHub Gists, although if people want it I'll do it. The reason why is I think it makes it a bit slower to browse.

hi! great to see this work. i would like to add the nfl games. they have an inbuild screenreader
and by the way diablo 4 is fully accessible! i am playing through and it is perfect even in dungeons which sometimes are more challenging but manageable.

how good is elder scrolls online withe the fco accessibility mod?

I literally just was about to make this list myself but have found several more mods on here I had no clue about.
Having the seperate groups is useful but probably better once it becomes a website rather then a gist.
I wonder if some sort of email list for this would be worth it so people can be notified when new games become accessible.

Thanks. Regarding NFL, is the gameplay also accessible or do they just have menu narration? Also about Diablo, I think not having nav assist in dungeons + some other things like the map being a pain to use are enough to say that it's mostly accessible since it can make a lot of the parts of the game frustrating or just take way longer than they're supposed to. A lot of other people, even on Sightless Slayers have a similar opinion.
