Introduction

This is a quick guide to teach you what to target in Hyperspace Battle Zones in Legends: Z-A. These zones are often ignored because players want to hunt for Pokémon instead, but don't sleep on them! They are a good way to get a lot of resources.

What cool loot can I get from Hyperspace Battle Zones?

  • Breaking floating Poké Balls gives Exp. Candy and Hyperspace Berries plus additional items from Item Power. This is the same as in Hyperspace Wild Zones.

  • Several NPCs can give you rewards after you defeat them: Hyperspace Berries, rare Poké Balls, and bottle caps. NPCs give multiple of a single type of item, and you can reset the game to pick which one you want. This is great for the rare balls (5-star distortions) and Hyper Tanga Berries (4-star distortions).

  • Completing tasks nets you a lot of points to your next goal! They give many more points than Hyperspace Wild Zones of the same rank, and the tasks are generally easier to do since they are targeted towards beating trainers.

Completing all the tasks for a 5-star Battle Zone puts you at around 16000-17000 of 25000 points for another special scan; this is just a Rogue Mega battle away.

Do I need Item Power?

Item Powers only affect the drops from floating Poké Balls, not from the trainer NPCs covered in this guide. You can see the tables on Serebii's Floating Poké Balls page. These are not specific to Battle Zones.

The 3 different levels of Item Power add different amounts of weight to the items in the tables. Everything listed under "Item Power Required" normally has a weight of 0. Item Power Lv. 1 adds a weight of 1, Item Power Lv. 2 adds a weight of 2, and Item Power Lv. 3 adds a weight of 1000.

Most of the items in the tables have weights of around 4 or 17, so Item Power Lv. 3 adding a weight of 1000 strongly skews your chances toward those specific items.

Small Poké Balls drop 2-3 items, large Poké Balls drop 4-5 items, and the Bonus Ball drops 6 items (which is then boosted by Big Haul by 2, 3, or 5 depending on the level of the Flavor Power).

If you are after rare Poké Balls, consider using Item Power Lv. 3: Poké Balls for 4-star and 5-star distortions. This will allow Apricorn balls to drop from the regular floating Poké Balls. In 5-star distortions, you should be able to guarantee 1 each of Beast Ball, Safari Ball, Sport Ball, and Dream Ball from the gold Bonus Ball. In 4-star distortions, this will let you get a bunch of Apricorn balls from the Bonus Ball.

If you get Item Power Lv. 3: Poké Balls and Item Power: Big Haul, this is better saved for 4-star distortions or Rogue Mega Rematches since the combo allows you to get more Apricorn balls out of the Bonus Ball. There are only 4 rare balls in 5-star Bonus Balls, each limited to 1 maximum, so Big Haul is wasted.

Note that compared to NPC rewards, floating Poké Balls give you a wider variety and lesser quantity. Item Power causes shop balls to become possible in the regular floating Poké Balls, and all of the rare balls are limited to 1 maximum each time.

Can I control the randomness?

There is currently no known way to control what distortion you get from a special scan. Typical backup save methods do not work.

For item drops, you can save in front of floating Poké Balls and defeated NPCs before interacting with them. If you do not get the item you want, restart the game and try again. This allows you to target specific rewards.

Here is a video of saving and resetting for rare Poké Balls from a Collector NPC.

Do I need to defeat all the NPCs?

There are only 2 reasons to defeat NPCs: you need the win for the survey tasks, or you want their rewards. Once you have completed the survey tasks, you can simply target NPCs that have rewards upon defeat.

What if I am challenged by an NPC I don't want to beat?

You can keep walking away from them and eventually the battle will end because you are too far away.

Which NPCs will give me prizes after I defeat them?

I'll finish with a list of NPCs and what prizes they can give!
